From Gym Floor to Retail Media: How Fitness Networks Turn Workout Time Into Qualified Reach and Measurable Action

Traditional digital out-of-home advertising is good at being seen. The harder task is reaching the right audience in a setting that fits the message, gives people time to notice it and offers a meaningful next step.

For media buyers, screen count alone is not enough. They also need context, reliable audience information and transparent reporting. Fitness locations provide that context: members return regularly, spend meaningful time on site and share an interest in health, energy and performance. A well-placed screen can be seen more than once during a visit.

How smart vending closes the gap

Invenda's solution turns a smart vending machine into both a retail touchpoint and a digital media surface. The Luna automated retail platform connects machine operations and transaction data, while the Atlas advertising module manages campaign delivery.

On the same 49-inch screen, a campaign can run as a full-screen placement or remain visible while a customer browses products. If the advertised product is stocked in the machine, the customer can move from the message to purchase without leaving the gym floor.

Integrated audience measurement supports verified impressions, anonymous demographic estimates and dwell-time insights in a GDPR-compliant setup. Transaction data shows how the retail environment performs. Today, these data sets describe performance separately; they do not yet provide one-to-one sales attribution.

How Simplix brings the model to life

Simplix Solutions has brought this model to life across its fitness network in Germany. The network spans more than 120 gyms and studios and reaches roughly 6 to 8 million on-target contacts each month.

At locations equipped with Invenda smart vending machines, advertising appears in the same environment where members browse and buy. Sports nutrition, supplements and fitness gear are a natural fit, while the defined audience is also relevant for non-endemic campaigns.

"We are strong believers in the combination of media and commerce. In gyms, we reach 100% of this target group without wastage. The 49-inch screens offerhigh visibility, and the ability to have a product physically available for purchase immediately after seeing an ad is a unique selling point."

— Mario Burmeister, CEO, Simplix Solutions

Results from Simplix's growing commerce network

According to data shared by Simplix, the network recorded year-over-year revenue growth of 50% to 72% across three recent reporting periods. Revenue per screen increased by 8% to 26%. The results reflect Simplix's work to build and improve an active commerce network.

These figures describe commerce performance rather than campaign-level sales attribution. They still matter because the advertising sits where people already use the screen to browse and buy.

A blueprint that goes beyond fitness

Together, Simplix and Invenda show how smart vending can connect media, commerce and measurable audience value in a live fitness environment. The same approach can work in other high-dwell locations with a defined audience, including hotels, workplaces, campuses and travel hubs.

For you, that means a scalable way to combine automated retail, digital campaigns, audience insights and point-of-sale interaction. Simplix demonstrates that the model is already working in the real world.
